Plant location: Sighted at Lair 'o the Bear Park, Colorado on June 19, 2010. A plant shot of this species was not possible as it was engulfed by surrounding vegetation.
Bloom season: March through June in Colorado, some states as late as August. -

Plant location: Sighted at Lair 'o the Bear Park, Colorado on June 19, 2010.
Bloom season: An early bloomer, March through May. -
American Yellowrocket -or- Wintercress -or- St. Barbara Weed (Barbarea orthoceras), family Brassicaceae (Mustard).

Golden Currant -or- Buffalo Currant -or- Clove Bush (Ribes aureum), family Grossulariaceae (Gooseberry).
Plant location: Sighted in the Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, in Colorado, on May 13, 2008.
Bloom season: March through June. -
Common Mullein -or- Great Mullein (Verbascum thapsus), family Scrophulariaceae (Figowrt).

Plant location: Seen in Hillsborough Oregon on July 24, 2007. The plants are common in every state of the U.S.
Bloom season: June through September. -
Fetid Marigold (Dyssodia papposa), family Asteraceae (Sunflower/Aster). It is said that one will smell these plants before seeing them, hence the 'fetid'. We think they smell fine. The aroma carries a spicy overtone that is fresh and distinctive.

Wild Hops -or- Common Hops (Humulus lupulus), family Cannabaceae (Hops). This famous plant is the primary flavorant in beer. A warm thanks to Barbara Fahey, Extension Agent for the Colorado State University Extension in Jefferson County, for her identification of this specimen.

Sulphur Indian paintbrush -or- Sulphur Paintbrush -or- Yellow Paintbrush (Castilleja sulphurea), family Orobanchaceae (Broomrape) was Scrophulariaceae (Figwort), still often classified there.
