Winding Mariposa Lily (Calochortus flexuosus), family Lilyaceae (Lily)
Another lovely lily for our digital library. We were headed towards Caliente Nevada when a sign for the Oak Springs Trilobite Area sprang up. And there they were, the beautiful blooms scattered among the dry rocks and wash areas. Many plants were growing through bushes, while only a few here and there used no suppoprt of any kind.
USES: Per the webiste Native American Ethnobotany is the following use of this species by the Cahuillas: Bulbs roasted in hot ash pits or steamed prior to eating.
