Winterfat -or- White Sage (Krascheninnikovia lanata), family Amaranthaceae (Amaranth)
Was in the goosefoot family Chenopodiaceae, per WIKIPEDIA, and still mostly shown there. Flora of North America still places Winterfat in the Goosefoot family. See their page on Winterfat here. The species is a valued food source for livestock, especially sheep.
