Large-leaved Lupine -or- Big-leaved Lupine -or- Many-leaved Lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus var. prunophilus), family Fabaceae (Pea/Bean)
This variety of polyphyllus could hardly fail to catch our attention as we drove Hwy 40 West to do some hiking on Rollins Pass. What a show-off! The species is one of the tallest of the western lupines, according to the Colorado State University Extension website. Per William Weber (Colorado Flora, Eastern Slope), the prunophilus variety is the only example of the polyphyllus species in the state.Flower
